Local Search Competition Index
63/ 100
Sitting at rank 449 of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 196 of the 400 markets we cover. A higher score means more local businesses are competing for the same searches. How the score works
We grade every U.S. county-equivalent with 20,000 or more residents on how many local-search businesses (including the lawyers, dentists, contractors, restaurants, salons and agents that customers find on Google and the map) compete for the same customers. Cuyahoga County scores 63, which is close to the middle of the pack.
Two things stand out about Cuyahoga County: it is a county with many sizeable cities and towns, and it is a county whose population is flat or shrinking. Below, eight measures set it beside every other county.
The bars place Cuyahoga County against all 1,822 U.S. counties with 20,000 or more residents. Source data: Census Bureau population estimates, County Business Patterns (2017 and 2022), Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
The search picture
Many towns, many searches: Cuyahoga County counts 43 places of 2,500 or more residents (34 above 10,000), more than 100% of counties. Searchers use town names, so a business that serves several of them needs a page for each service in each town, not one page for the whole county.
Cuyahoga County has 1,233,088 residents, which ranks 35th of 3,143 U.S. counties, and its population has changed −2.5% since the 2020 Census. Across all industries it has 31,728 employer locations, 25.7 per 1,000 residents.
Who else is in the results
Each local-search category's employer locations are divided by population and compared with the median county. A reading of 2.0x means two times the businesses per resident a typical county has.
Crowding = employer locations per 10,000 residents divided by the median U.S. county of 20,000+ residents (1.0x is typical; the dark tick marks it). Counts are establishments from County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), not a measure of search volume. See the method
In Cuyahoga County, the law offices category is the most contested, with 780 locations at 2.2 times the typical density, down 7.3% since 2017. Beauty salons (389 locations, 2.0x) and accounting and CPA firms (290 locations, 1.9x) also run above a normal county. At the other end, the electrical contractors category (192 locations) is below typical density at 0.7x, which means fewer competing sites to outrank.
Residential remodelers grew fastest, up 26.9% since 2017 to 335 locations, so new rivals keep arriving there. Dentists went the other way, down 13.1% to 543 locations. The tiniest competitors are in real estate agents and brokers: 374 of 431 locations (87%) have fewer than five employees.
Keep in mind that this is a count of local businesses. It tells you nothing about search volume or how quickly a site can climb, and we do not guess at either; it tells you how many other sites you would be sharing the results with.
Where demand is heading
New housing units authorized by building permits. Source: the Census Bureau's Building Permits Survey (annual county files, with the year-to-date bars covering the same months in each year). Permits are authorizations, not completed homes.
Cuyahoga County authorized 1,685 housing units in 2024 and 1,368 in 2025, about 19% fewer; 2025 still works out to 11.1 units per 10,000 residents, less than in 79% of counties. For January through August, permits are running at 948 against 556 a year earlier (+70.5%).
The construction-linked categories already most contested in Cuyahoga County are real estate agents and brokers (1.4x typical) and insurance agencies and brokerages (1.3x typical). SEO builds gradually, so the time to start is before the demand arrives; pages already indexed and ranking are the ones new households meet first.
Comparable counties
We matched Cuyahoga County to the six markets in our 400-market set that look most like it on population, income, local-search competition and how fast the business base is growing.

| Jefferson County, AL | 61.2 | 662,895 | -1.7% | +3.3% | 54.9% |
These are the six markets among our 400 that match this one most closely on size, income, local-search competition, small-business mix and growth. Same sources as above.
Erie County, NY is the closest match, scoring 64.5 against Cuyahoga County's 63. Milwaukee County, WI is the furthest from it, scoring 49.8. The small-business mix differs too: 54.1% of Jefferson County, KY's locations have fewer than five employees, against 56.8% here. If you already invest in SEO in one of these markets, the comparison shows how similar the competition is, not what your results will be.

Questions
Pricing is a flat monthly fee. RankGuarantee™, our local landing page engine, is $495 a month on its own. The Organic Growth plans add Google Maps work, AI search optimization, content and more landing pages, and cost $1,495 (Silver), $2,495 (Gold) and $3,495 (Platinum). There is no setup fee and no contract.
There is no honest fixed timeline for SEO. Rankings build over time and depend on the competition, your site and the work we can publish. Law offices is the most contested category in Cuyahoga County at 2.2x typical, so it is the one to be patient with. We work in six-month cycles, show you the movement each month, and you can cancel anytime.
About average. Cuyahoga County scores 63 on our Local Search Competition Index, ranking 449th of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 196th of the 400 markets we cover. Law offices, at 2.2 times the typical county. Fewer than five employees work at 56.8% of local-search locations, which frequently means thin websites to outrank. That is a reason to start early: consistent SEO tends to hold ground where fewer rivals are building.
Across the fifteen categories we track, the largest by employer locations in Cuyahoga County are full-service restaurants (970), law offices (780) and physicians offices (651). Measured against a typical county, the most contested are law offices (2.2x) and beauty salons (2.0x). Size and crowding in a category do not decide whether SEO works for you; it shows how many other sites would be in the results with you.
The ones you serve. Cuyahoga County has 43 places of 2,500 or more residents, led by Cleveland, Parma, Lakewood, Euclid and Strongsville. RankGuarantee™ builds local landing pages for each service in each city you serve (25 new pages a month on the $495 plan, 25 to 100 on Organic Growth), so the plan follows your service area, not the county line.
Yes. All Organic Growth plans include Google Business Profile optimization, citations and review management, plus on-page and technical SEO, strategic content and AI search (GEO) work. Maps rankings carry the most weight for "near me" searches, and most local categories in Cuyahoga County depend on them.
It can help. Our plans include AI search (GEO) optimization: clear, well-structured pages and consistent business information give AI tools more to draw on. Nobody can guarantee an AI mention, and we do not promise one, but the same work that earns rankings builds the content those tools use.
Often both. Google Ads can bring calls within days, but each click costs money; SEO builds more slowly and then works without paying per click. If leads cannot wait, start with ads (we manage Google Ads, Bing and Meta too) and build SEO as the asset that makes you less dependent on ads.
Cancel anytime: no contract, no setup fee. Your monthly fee pays for onboarding (keyword research, a website audit and a six-month strategy), the pages and content that come with your plan, page management and rank tracking, and one dedicated account manager who reports to you each month.
