The market in numbers
Local Search Competition Index
45.9/ 100
Ranked 1,036 of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and also 342 of the 400 markets we cover. More local businesses chasing the same searches pushes the score up. How the score works
We score every U.S. county-equivalent with 20,000 or more residents on how many local-search businesses (the lawyers, dentists, contractors, restaurants, salons and agents that customers find on Google and the map) compete for its residents. Brazos County scores 45.9, which is near the middle of the pack.
Two features set Brazos County apart: it is one of the faster-growing counties in the country, and it is also a county with heavy new home construction for its size. The eight measures that follow place it among every other county.
Each bar places Brazos County among all 1,822 U.S. counties with 20,000 or more residents. Sources: Census Bureau population estimates, County Business Patterns (2017 and 2022), Census income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
What stands out
With 244,703 residents and 4.6% growth since the 2020 Census (ahead of 84% of counties), Brazos County keeps adding people who have no loyalty to any local business yet. Their first move is a search, which is exactly what a search engine optimization campaign is built to win, and rankings earned during a growth phase tend to carry into the years after it.
College Station dominates Brazos County with about 51% of its residents, so rankings there matter most, but the rest of the county (Bryan, Kurten and Wixon Valley) searches by its own town names.
Demand signal
Housing units authorized by building permits. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Building Permits Survey (annual files by county, plus a year-to-date comparison of identical months). Permits are authorizations, not completed homes.
Permits in Brazos County have stayed within a narrow range: 2,330 units in 2025 against 2,212 in 2021, or 95.2 per 10,000 residents, more than in 93% of counties. For January through August, permits are running at 2,629 against 1,389 a year earlier (+89.3%).
The construction-linked categories already most contested in Brazos County are real estate agents and brokers (1.4x typical) and landscaping services (1.0x typical). Since rankings build slowly, rising permits are a reason to start today, and a drop is a reason to lean harder on repair, replacement and service-specific pages.
Who else is in the results
This table sets Brazos County against the typical U.S. county for fifteen categories that live on Google and the map: how many locations exist, how the count has changed, and how many are tiny.
Crowding = employer locations per 10,000 residents divided by the median U.S. county of 20,000+ residents (1.0x is typical; the dark tick marks it). Figures are establishments from the Census County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which says nothing about search volume. See the method
In Brazos County, the physicians offices category is the most contested, with 140 locations at 1.4 times the typical density, down 0.7% since 2017. Real estate agents and brokers (86 locations, 1.4x) also runs above a normal county. At the other end, the insurance agencies and brokerages category (71 locations) is below typical density at 0.8x, which means fewer competing sites to outrank.
Residential remodelers grew fastest, up 73% since 2017 to 64 locations, so new rivals keep arriving there. Plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors went the other way, down 6.7% to 70 locations. The tiniest competitors are in real estate agents and brokers: 73 of 86 locations (85%) have fewer than five employees.
This is a headcount of local businesses. It says nothing about search volume or how fast any site can climb, and we do not guess at either; it tells you how many other sites you would be sharing the results with.

Gaston County, NC is the closest match, scoring 49.5 against Brazos County's 45.9. Yuma County, AZ is the furthest from it, scoring 37.1. The small-business mix differs too: 57.6% of Yuma County, AZ's locations have fewer than five employees, against 53.6% here. If you already do SEO in one of these markets, the comparison shows how alike the competition is, not what your results will be.

Questions
Pricing is a flat monthly fee. RankGuarantee™, our system for local landing pages, is $495 a month on its own. Organic Growth plans, which add Google Maps work, AI search optimization, content and more landing pages, are $1,495 (Silver), $2,495 (Gold) and $3,495 (Platinum). There is no setup fee and no contract.
There is no honest fixed timeline for SEO. Rankings take time and depend on the competition, your site and the work we publish. Physicians offices is the most contested category in Brazos County at 1.4x typical, so it is the one to be patient with. You see the movement every month in six-month planning cycles, and you can cancel anytime.
About average. Brazos County scores 45.9 on our Local Search Competition Index, ranking 1036th of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 342nd of the 400 markets we cover. Physicians offices leads on density, at 1.4 times the typical county. That is a reason to start early: consistent SEO tends to hold ground where fewer rivals are building.
Across the fifteen categories we track, the largest by employer locations in Brazos County are full-service restaurants (148), physicians offices (140) and real estate agents and brokers (86). Measured against a typical county, the most contested are physicians offices (1.4x) and real estate agents and brokers (1.4x). A big or crowded category does not decide whether SEO works for you; it shows how many other sites you would be sharing the results with.
Whichever ones you cover. Brazos County has 2 places of 2,500 or more residents, led by College Station and Bryan. RankGuarantee™ builds local landing pages for each service in each city you serve (25 new pages a month on the $495 plan, 25 to 100 on Organic Growth), so the plan follows your service area, not the county line.
We do. Every Organic Growth plan includes Google Business Profile optimization, citations and review management, plus on-page and technical SEO, strategic content and AI search (GEO) work. Map results matter most for searches like "near me", and most of the local categories in Brazos County rely on them.
It can help. We include AI search (GEO) optimization in our plans: clean, structured pages and consistent business information give AI tools more to draw on. Nobody can guarantee an AI mention, and we do not promise one, but the same work that earns rankings builds the content those tools use.
Usually a mix of both. Google Ads can send calls within days and costs per click; SEO builds more slowly and then works without paying per click. If leads cannot wait, start with ads (we manage Google Ads, Bing and Meta too) and let SEO build the asset that reduces your reliance on them.
Cancel anytime: no contract, no setup fee. The monthly fee covers onboarding (keyword research, a website audit and a six-month strategy), the landing pages and content in your plan, continuing page management and rank tracking, and a dedicated account manager who reports to you monthly.
