The market in figures
Local Search Competition Index
71.8/ 100
Ranked 224 of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 96 of the 400 markets we cover. More local businesses chasing the same searches pushes the score up. How the index is built
We score every U.S. county-equivalent with 20,000 or more residents on how many local-search businesses (including the lawyers, dentists, contractors, restaurants, salons and agents that customers find on Google and the map) are chasing the same residents. Denver County scores 71.8, which is more contested than most.
Two features set Denver County apart: it is a county with unusually many local-search businesses for its size, and it is also a high-income county. Eight measures below show where it stands among all counties.
The bars place Denver County alongside all 1,822 U.S. counties with 20,000 or more residents. Data from: Census Bureau population estimates, County Business Patterns (2017 and 2022), Census income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
The search picture
Local search is contested ground in Denver County: 86.4 employer locations per 10,000 residents across the 15 categories we track, denser than 97% of counties. With that many businesses chasing the same map pack and first-page results, a generic website loses; pages that target a specific service in a specific city have a better chance.
Denver County has 716,577 residents, which ranks 95th of 3,143 U.S. counties, with population change of +0.1% since the 2020 Census. Across all industries it has 27,347 employer locations, 38.2 per 1,000 residents.
Much of Denver County lies outside its larger towns; the biggest place, Denver, has 716,577 residents. Search here is a mix of town names, "near me" and county-level queries, so pages and map listings need to cover the whole service area.
Your competition
This table sets Denver County against the typical U.S. county for fifteen categories that live on Google and the map: the number of locations, how that number has moved, and how many are very small.
Crowding is employer locations per 10,000 residents relative to the median U.S. county of 20,000+ residents (1.0x is typical; the dark tick marks it). Counts are establishments from County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which says nothing about search volume. How we calculate this
The real estate agents and brokers category is the most contested in Denver County: 1,196 locations, 6.7x the density of a typical county, and up 33% since 2017. Law offices (1,210 locations, 5.9x) and beauty salons (367 locations, 3.2x) also run above a normal county. The general automotive repair category is the least contested here at 0.6x typical (104 locations), so there are fewer rival pages for those searches.
Real estate agents and brokers is also the fastest-growing category, up 33%, so the competition is still building. General automotive repair went the other way, down 14% to 104 locations. The tiniest competitors are in real estate agents and brokers: 1,107 of 1,196 locations (93%) have fewer than five employees.
Keep this in mind: this counts businesses, not searches. We have no search volumes or traffic for any keyword, and we do not claim any; crowding shows that more sites compete, not what results will be.
Look-alike markets
These six counties are the nearest matches to Denver County in our 400-market set when we compare size, income, local-search competition, small-business mix and growth together.
| Place | Index | Residents | Growth since 2020 | Local-business change since 2017 | Share under 5 employees |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Denver County, CO (you are here) | 71.8 | 716,577 | +0.1% | +7.2% | 64.8% |

| Will County, IL | 65.8 | 700,728 | +0.5% | +8% | 63.8% |
| Essex County, MA | 71.6 | 810,089 | 0% | +6.4% | 61.5% |
Look-alikes are the six counties in our 400-market set closest to this one on size, income, local-search competition, small-business mix and growth. Same sources as above.
Kane County, IL is the closest match, scoring 76.6 against Denver County's 71.8. Arapahoe County, CO is the furthest from it, scoring 82. The small-business mix differs too: 61.5% of Essex County, MA's locations have fewer than five employees, against 64.8% here. If you already do SEO in one of these markets, the comparison shows how alike the competition is, not what your results will be.
Housing demand
Housing units authorized by building permits. Data: the U.S. Census Bureau's Building Permits Survey (county annual files; year-to-date comparison covers the same months in each year). Keep in mind that permits are approvals, not completed homes.
Denver County authorized 10,000 housing units in 2021 and 4,727 in 2025, about 53% fewer; 2025 still works out to 66 units per 10,000 residents, more than in 83% of counties. For January through August, permits are running at 3,995 against 2,503 a year earlier (+59.6%).
The construction-linked categories already most contested in Denver County are real estate agents and brokers (6.7x typical) and roofing contractors (2.4x typical). Since rankings build slowly, rising permits are a reason to start today, and falling permits are a reason to emphasize repair, replacement and service-specific pages.
Check the math
SEO is a monthly cost that pays back gradually, so the useful question is how many new customers it has to bring in to pay for itself. Tell the calculator what a customer is worth and which plan you are weighing.
The process
We research your services, cities and competitors, audit your site end to end, and draft a six-month roadmap. It is included in your monthly rate.
Our RankGuarantee™ system builds a dedicated landing page for each service in each city you serve, and your website gets technical clean-up and on-page improvements.
We work on your Google Business Profile, citations and reviews, publish Strategic Content Assets, and organize your pages so AI search can use them.
Every month your account manager shares reporting from Search Console and Analytics, and we add pages and content where the data says to.

Common questions
We charge a flat monthly fee with no setup fee and no contract: $495 for RankGuarantee™ landing pages, or $1,495, $2,495 or $3,495 for the Silver, Gold and Platinum Organic Growth plans. A fully managed, custom-built website comes with Gold and Platinum.
Nobody can promise a date for SEO, since it builds gradually. How quickly pages climb depends on how contested your category is, how strong your website and Google Business Profile are, and how much we can build. In Denver County, real estate agents and brokers is notably contested (6.7x a typical county), so expect that category to take longer. Our planning cycles run six months with no contract, and you get a report each month.
More than most. Denver County scores 71.8 on our Local Search Competition Index, ranking 224th of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 96th of the 400 markets we cover. Real estate agents and brokers is the densest category here, at 6.7 times the typical county. 64.8% of local-search locations are tiny, with fewer than five employees, and tiny shops often have thin websites to outrank. That makes city-and-service pages and strong reviews more important, not less.
Across the fifteen categories we track, the largest by employer locations in Denver County are law offices (1,210), real estate agents and brokers (1,196) and full-service restaurants (904). Measured against a typical county, the most contested are real estate agents and brokers (6.7x) and law offices (5.9x). A big or crowded category does not decide whether SEO works for you; it shows how many other sites would be in the results with you.
The ones you serve. In Denver County that is usually the main towns plus the surrounding area, and RankGuarantee™ builds local landing pages for each service in each place you cover, 25 new pages a month on the $495 plan and 25 to 100 on Organic Growth.
Yes. Every Organic Growth plan includes Google Business Profile optimization, citations and review management, along with on-page and technical SEO, strategic content and AI search (GEO) work. Maps rankings carry the most weight for "near me" searches, and much of what people search for in Denver County depends on them.
It can help. AI search (GEO) optimization is part of our plans: well-structured pages and consistent business details give AI tools more to work with. No one can guarantee a mention in an AI answer, and we do not promise one, but the work behind rankings is also the content those tools draw from.
Usually a mix of both. Google Ads can bring calls within days, but each click costs money; SEO builds more slowly and then works without paying per click. If leads cannot wait, start with ads (we manage Google Ads, Bing and Meta too) and use SEO to build the asset that lowers your dependence on them.
Cancel whenever you like; there is no setup fee. Your monthly plan includes the keyword research, website audit and six-month strategy up front, then the pages and content in your tier, rank tracking, and one account manager who knows your Denver County business.
