Market snapshot
Local Search Competition Index
62.2/ 100
Sitting at rank 470 of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 208 of the 400 markets we cover. A higher score means more local businesses are competing for the same searches. How the index is built
We score every U.S. county-equivalent with 20,000 or more residents on how many local-search businesses (like the lawyers, dentists, contractors, restaurants, salons and agents that customers find on Google and the map) compete for its residents. Utah County scores 62.2, which is near the middle of the pack.
Two things stand out about Utah County: it is one of the quicker-growing counties in the country, and it is a county whose business base is expanding quickly. Eight measures below show where it stands among all counties.
Each bar sets Utah County alongside all 1,822 U.S. counties with 20,000 or more residents. Sources: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates, County Business Patterns (2017 and 2022), Census income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
What stands out
With 719,174 residents and 9.1% growth since the 2020 Census (ahead of 95% of counties), Utah County keeps adding people who have no loyalty to any local business yet. Their first move is a search, which is exactly what a search engine optimization campaign is built to win, and rankings earned during a growth phase tend to carry into the years after it.
No single place dominates Utah County: the largest, Provo, has about 16% of residents, and others include Orem (95,519), Lehi (90,227), Eagle Mountain (56,932) and Saratoga Springs (52,532). Searchers use their own town's name, so each place is its own ranking opportunity.
Housing demand
Units authorized by building permits. Data: the U.S. Census Bureau's Building Permits Survey (annual county files, with the year-to-date bars covering the same months in each year). A permit is an authorization, not a finished home.
Utah County authorized 11,040 housing units in 2021 and 7,263 in 2025, about 34% fewer; 2025 still works out to 101 units per 10,000 residents, more than in 94% of counties. For January through August, permits are running at 3,674 against 4,847 a year earlier (−24.2%).
The construction-linked categories already most contested in Utah County are real estate agents and brokers (3.0x typical) and electrical contractors (1.4x typical). SEO takes time to build, so start before the demand shows up; new households meet the pages that are already indexed and ranking.
Your competition
For each local-search category we divide employer locations by population and compare the result with the median county. A 2.0x reading means double the businesses per resident of a typical county.
Crowding is employer locations per 10,000 residents relative to the median U.S. county of 20,000+ residents (1.0x is typical; the dark tick marks it). Figures are establishments from the Census County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which says nothing about search volume. How we calculate this
In Utah County, the real estate agents and brokers category is the most contested, with 543 locations at 3.0 times the typical density, up 23.1% since 2017. Dentists (378 locations, 1.9x) and janitorial services (174 locations, 1.6x) also run above a normal county. At the other end, the full-service restaurants category (227 locations) is below typical density at 0.5x, which means fewer competing sites to outrank.
Residential remodelers grew fastest, up 77% since 2017 to 239 locations, so new rivals keep arriving there. The tiniest competitors are in real estate agents and brokers: 531 of 543 locations (98%) have fewer than five employees.
One caution: this counts businesses, not searches. No keyword search volume or traffic numbers are claimed here; a crowded category means more sites in the race, not a prediction of results.

St. Johns County, FL is the closest match, scoring 68.3 against Utah County's 62.2. Fort Bend County, TX is the furthest from it, scoring 41.8. The small-business mix differs too: 60.7% of Williamson County, TX's locations have fewer than five employees, against 66.9% here. If you already invest in SEO in one of these markets, the comparison shows how similar the competition is, not what your results will be.
Population by place
Place-by-place population from the latest Census Bureau estimates. People search by town name, so each of these is a separate set of searches and a possible landing page for each service you offer.

| Provo | 113,343 | 16% |
| Orem | 95,519 | 13% |

Common questions
Pricing is flat and monthly. RankGuarantee™, our system for local landing pages, is $495 a month on its own. The Organic Growth plans add Google Maps work, AI search optimization, content and more landing pages, and cost $1,495 (Silver), $2,495 (Gold) and $3,495 (Platinum). No setup fee, no contract.
There is no honest fixed timeline for SEO. Results build gradually and depend on the competition, your website and what we can publish. Real estate agents and brokers is the most contested category in Utah County at 3.0x typical, so it is the one to be patient with. You see the movement every month in six-month planning cycles, and you can cancel anytime.
About average. Utah County scores 62.2 on our Local Search Competition Index, ranking 470th of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 208th of the 400 markets we cover. Real estate agents and brokers, at 3.0 times the typical county. 66.9% of local-search locations have fewer than five employees, which commonly means thin websites to outrank. That argues for starting early: consistent SEO tends to hold ground where fewer rivals are building.
Across the fifteen categories we track, the largest by employer locations in Utah County are real estate agents and brokers (543), dentists (378) and physicians offices (369). Measured against a typical county, the most contested are real estate agents and brokers (3.0x) and dentists (1.9x). Size and crowding in a category do not decide whether SEO works for you; it shows how many other sites would be in the results with you.
The ones you serve. Utah County has 20 places of 2,500 or more residents, led by Provo, Orem, Lehi, Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs. RankGuarantee™ builds local landing pages for each service in each city you serve (25 new pages a month on the $495 plan, 25 to 100 on Organic Growth), so the plan follows your service area, not the county line.
We do. Every Organic Growth plan includes Google Business Profile optimization, citations and review management, along with on-page and technical SEO, strategic content and AI search (GEO) work. Maps rankings matter most for searches like "near me", and most local categories in Utah County depend on them.
It can help. We include AI search (GEO) optimization in our plans: clear, well-structured pages and consistent business information give AI tools more to draw on. Nobody can guarantee an AI mention, and we do not promise one, but the work that earns rankings also builds the content those tools use.
Often both. Google Ads can bring calls within days, but each click costs money; SEO takes longer to build and keeps working without a per-click charge. When you need leads right away, begin with ads (we manage Google Ads, Bing and Meta too) and let SEO build the asset that reduces your reliance on them.
There is no contract and no setup fee, and you can cancel anytime. What you pay each month includes onboarding (keyword research, a website audit and a six-month strategy), the landing pages and content in your plan, page management and rank tracking, and a dedicated account manager who reports to you monthly.
