Snapshot
Local Search Competition Index
55.9/ 100
Rank 667 of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 268 of the 400 markets we cover. More local businesses chasing the same searches pushes the score up. How the index is built
We grade every U.S. county-equivalent with 20,000 or more residents on how many local-search businesses (such as the lawyers, dentists, contractors, restaurants, salons and agents that customers find on Google and the map) are chasing the same residents. Tarrant County scores 55.9, which is close to the middle of the pack.
What shapes SEO in Tarrant County is more than the score. It is a county with many sizeable cities and towns, and it is a county whose business base is expanding quickly. The eight measures below show how it compares with each other county.
Each bar places Tarrant County against all 1,822 U.S. counties with 20,000 or more residents. Sources: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates, County Business Patterns (2017 and 2022), Census income estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
What shapes local search here
Tarrant County has 31 places with 2,500 or more residents, 22 of them above 10,000, more than 99% of counties. Each is its own search market: people look for a plumber in Fort Worth or in the next town over, not in the county. Local SEO means giving each of those cities its own page for each service you offer, which is what RankGuarantee™ is built to produce.
Tarrant County has 2,182,947 residents, which ranks 15th of 3,143 U.S. counties, with population change of +3.4% since the 2020 Census. Across all industries it has 46,946 employer locations, 21.5 per 1,000 residents.
Where the customers are
Population by place, from the Census Bureau's latest estimates. People search by town name, so each of these is a separate set of searches and a possible landing page for each service you offer.
| Place | People (2023 est.) | Slice of the county |
|---|---|---|
| Fort Worth (part) | 958,409 | 44% |
| Arlington | 398,431 | 18% |
| Grand Prairie (part) | 73,976 | 3% |
| Mansfield (part) | 72,643 | 3% |
| North Richland Hills | 70,658 | 3% |
| Euless | 59,686 | 3% |
Data: Census Bureau Population Estimates. A place is a city, town or census-designated place; where a city runs into a neighboring county, just the portion inside Tarrant County is counted.
The field you would rank in
For each local-search category we divide employer locations by population and compare the result with the median county. A reading of 2.0x means twice as many businesses per resident as a typical county.
Crowding compares employer locations per 10,000 residents with the median U.S. county of 20,000+ residents (1.0x is typical; the dark tick marks it). Counts are establishments from County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), not a measure of search volume. See the method
The roofing contractors category is the most contested in Tarrant County: 264 locations, 2.1x the density of a typical county, and up 45.9% since 2017. Physicians offices (1,694 locations, 1.9x) and dentists (1,024 locations, 1.7x) also run above a normal county. The landscaping services category is the least contested here at 0.6x typical (410 locations), so there are fewer rival pages for those searches.
Residential remodelers grew fastest, up 64.4% since 2017 to 475 locations, so new rivals keep arriving there. Physicians offices went the other way, down 3.5% to 1,694 locations. The tiniest competitors are in real estate agents and brokers: 657 of 727 locations (90%) have fewer than five employees.
Keep in mind that this is a count of local businesses. It says nothing about search volume or how fast any site can climb, and we do not guess at either; it shows how many other sites you would share the results with.
Demand signal
New homes authorized by building permits. Data: the Census Bureau's Building Permits Survey (county annual files; year-to-date comparison covers the same months in each year). A permit is an authorization, not a finished home.
Tarrant County authorized 18,858 housing units in 2024 and 13,847 in 2025, about 27% fewer; 2025 still works out to 63.4 units per 10,000 residents, more than in 81% of counties. For January through August, permits are running at 11,401 against 10,102 a year earlier (+12.9%).
The construction-linked categories already most contested in Tarrant County are roofing contractors (2.1x typical) and real estate agents and brokers (1.3x typical). SEO builds gradually, so the time to start is before the demand arrives; pages already indexed and ranking are the ones new households meet first.

Check the math
SEO is a monthly investment that compounds over time, so the useful question is how many new customers it takes to pay for itself. Tell the calculator what a customer is worth and which plan you are weighing.

Common questions
Our fees are flat and monthly with no setup fee and no contract: $495 for RankGuarantee™ landing pages, or $1,495, $2,495 or $3,495 for the Silver, Gold and Platinum Organic Growth plans. Gold and Platinum include a fully managed, custom-built website.
Nobody can promise a date for SEO, because it builds gradually. The speed of the climb depends on how contested your category is, how strong your website and Google Business Profile are, and how much we can build. In Tarrant County, roofing contractors is especially contested (2.1x a typical county), so expect that category to take longer. We work in six-month planning cycles, with no contract, and report each month.
About average. Tarrant County scores 55.9 on our Local Search Competition Index, ranking 667th of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 268th of the 400 markets we cover. Roofing contractors is the densest category here, at 2.1 times the typical county. Fewer than five employees work at 57.1% of local-search locations, which often means thin websites to outrank. That is a case for starting early: steady SEO tends to hold its position where fewer rivals are building.
Across the fifteen categories we track, the largest by employer locations in Tarrant County are physicians offices (1,694), full-service restaurants (1,365) and dentists (1,024). Measured against a typical county, the most contested are roofing contractors (2.1x) and physicians offices (1.9x). A big or crowded category does not decide whether SEO works for you; it shows how many other sites you would be sharing the results with.
Whichever you serve. Tarrant County has 31 places of 2,500 or more residents, led by Fort Worth, Arlington, Grand Prairie, Mansfield and North Richland Hills. RankGuarantee™ builds local landing pages for each service in each city you serve (25 new pages a month on the $495 plan, 25 to 100 on Organic Growth), so the plan follows your service area, not the county line.
We do. Each Organic Growth plan covers Google Business Profile optimization, citations and review management, plus on-page and technical SEO, strategic content and AI search (GEO) work. Map results matter most for searches such as "near me", and much of what people search for in Tarrant County depends on them.
It may. AI search (GEO) optimization is part of our plans: clear, well-structured pages and consistent business information give AI tools more to draw on. No one can guarantee a mention in an AI answer, and we do not promise one, but the same work that earns rankings builds the content those tools use.
Usually a mix of both. Ads can send calls within days and charge per click; SEO takes longer but keeps working with no per-click charge. If leads cannot wait, start with ads (we manage Google Ads, Bing and Meta too) and use SEO to build the asset that lowers your dependence on them.
Cancel whenever you like; there is no setup fee. Your monthly plan includes the keyword research, website audit and six-month strategy up front, then the pages and content in your tier, rank tracking, and a single account manager familiar with your Tarrant County business.
