The market in figures
Local Search Competition Index
85/ 100
Rank 49 of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and also 20 of the 400 markets we cover. More local businesses chasing the same searches pushes the score up. How the index is built
We grade every U.S. county-equivalent with 20,000 or more residents on how many local-search businesses (including the lawyers, dentists, contractors, restaurants, salons and agents that customers find on Google and the map) compete for the same customers. Westchester County scores 85, which is among the most contested markets in the country.
Two things stand out about Westchester County: it is a high-income county, and it is a county with many sizeable cities and towns. Eight measures below show where it stands among all counties.
The bars place Westchester County among all 1,822 U.S. counties with 20,000 or more residents. Source data: Census Bureau population estimates, County Business Patterns (2017 and 2022), Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
Market profile
At $114,020, median household income in Westchester County sits above 97% of counties. Buyers in markets like this usually compare several providers online first, which puts a premium on thorough service pages, strong Google Business Profile reviews and answers to the questions they type into search and into AI assistants.
Westchester County has 990,817 residents, which ranks 49th of 3,143 U.S. counties, with population change of −1.4% since the 2020 Census. Across all industries it has 31,152 employer locations, 31.4 per 1,000 residents.
No single place dominates Westchester County: the largest, Yonkers, has about 21% of residents, and others include New Rochelle (83,742), Mount Vernon (71,168), White Plains (61,288) and Harrison (30,780). Searchers use their own town's name, so each place is its own ranking opportunity.
27% of residents (263,686 people) live outside any incorporated place, so county-level and "near me" searches matter as much as city names.
The field you would rank in
We divide each local-search category's employer locations by population and compare that with the median county. A reading of 2.0x means double the businesses per resident of a typical county.
Crowding is employer locations per 10,000 residents relative to the median U.S. county of 20,000+ residents (1.0x is typical; the dark tick marks it). Figures are establishments from the Census County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), not a measure of search volume. See the method
In Westchester County, the residential remodelers category is the most contested, with 972 locations at 3.3 times the typical density, up 23.5% since 2017. Beauty salons (480 locations, 3.0x) and law offices (848 locations, 3.0x) also run above a normal county. At the other end, the roofing contractors category (56 locations) is below typical density at 1.0x, which means fewer competing sites to outrank.
Real estate agents and brokers grew fastest, up 31.5% since 2017 to 501 locations, so new rivals keep arriving there. Physicians offices went the other way, down 26.6% to 686 locations. The tiniest competitors are in real estate agents and brokers: 440 of 501 locations (88%) have fewer than five employees.
These figures describe the competition, not the demand. The number of searches and the speed at which a page can rank depend on things public data cannot show, so a crowded category calls for planning and a quiet one is an opening.
Demand signal
Units authorized by building permits. Data: the U.S. Census Bureau's Building Permits Survey (annual county files, with the year-to-date bars covering the same months in each year). Keep in mind that permits are approvals, not completed homes.
Westchester County authorized 3,454 housing units in 2022 and 1,321 in 2025, about 62% fewer; 2025 still works out to 13.3 units per 10,000 residents, less than in 74% of counties. For January through August, permits are running at 640 against 656 a year earlier (−2.4%).
The construction-linked categories already most contested in Westchester County are residential remodelers (3.3x typical) and landscaping services (2.7x typical). Because search rankings take time to build, a rise in permits is a reason to start now, and a drop is a reason to lean harder on repair, replacement and service-specific pages.

Questions
You pay a flat monthly fee. RankGuarantee™, our system for local landing pages, is $495 a month on its own. Organic Growth plans, which bring in Google Maps work, AI search optimization, content and more landing pages, run $1,495 (Silver), $2,495 (Gold) and $3,495 (Platinum). There is no setup fee and no contract.
No honest SEO provider can give a fixed timeline. Results build gradually and depend on the competition, your website and what we can publish. Residential remodelers is the most contested category in Westchester County at 3.3x typical, so it is the one to be patient with. You see the movement every month in six-month planning cycles, and you can cancel anytime.
More than most. Westchester County scores 85 on our Local Search Competition Index, ranking 49th of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 20th of the 400 markets we cover. Residential remodelers is the densest category here, at 3.3 times the typical county. 66.9% of local-search locations are tiny, with fewer than five employees, and tiny shops frequently have thin websites to outrank. If anything, it makes city-and-service pages and strong reviews matter more.
Across the fifteen categories we track, the largest by employer locations in Westchester County are full-service restaurants (1,044), residential remodelers (972) and landscaping services (875). Measured against a typical county, the most contested are residential remodelers (3.3x) and beauty salons (3.0x). A big or crowded category does not decide whether SEO works for you; it shows how many other sites would be in the results with you.
Whichever ones you cover. Westchester County has 28 places of 2,500 or more residents, led by Yonkers, New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, White Plains and Harrison. RankGuarantee™ builds local landing pages for each service in each city you serve (25 new pages a month on the $495 plan, 25 to 100 on Organic Growth), so the plan follows your service area, not the county line.
Absolutely. All Organic Growth plans include Google Business Profile optimization, citations and review management, together with on-page and technical SEO, strategic content and AI search (GEO) work. Maps rankings matter most for searches like "near me", and much of what people search for in Westchester County depends on them.
It can help. Our plans include AI search (GEO) optimization: clear, well-structured pages and consistent business information give AI tools more to draw on. No one can guarantee a mention in an AI answer, and we do not promise one, but the work that earns rankings also builds the content those tools use.
Often both. Google Ads can bring calls within days, but each click costs money; SEO takes longer to build and keeps working without a per-click charge. When you need leads right away, begin with ads (we manage Google Ads, Bing and Meta too) and use SEO to build the asset that lowers your dependence on them.
There is no contract and no setup fee, and you can cancel anytime. Your monthly fee pays for onboarding (keyword research, a website audit and a six-month strategy), the landing pages and content your plan includes, continuing page management and rank tracking, and a dedicated account manager who reports to you monthly.
