Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsKing County is a high-income market, and that shapes how SEO should be built here. We are an SEO agency built for small businesses: city-by-city landing pages, Google Maps and AI search optimization, and flat monthly plans with no contracts. The data behind the King County market follows.
The market in numbers
Local Search Competition Index
71.1/ 100
Rank 245 of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and also 107 of the 400 markets we cover. Higher means more local businesses competing for the same searches. How we calculate it
We score every U.S. county-equivalent with 20,000 or more residents on how many local-search businesses (the lawyers, dentists, contractors, restaurants, salons and agents that customers find on Google and the map) compete for its residents. King County scores 71.1, which is more contested than most.
Two things stand out about King County: it is a high-income county, and it is a county with many sizeable cities and towns. The eight measures that follow place it among every other county.
The bars place King County alongside all 1,822 U.S. counties with 20,000 or more residents. Sources: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates, County Business Patterns (2017 and 2022), Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
Where the customers are
The largest places in King County by resident count. A local SEO plan can build pages for any of them, one per service you offer in each.
| Place | Residents (2023 est.) | Percent of the county |
|---|---|---|
| Seattle | 755,078 | 33% |
| Bellevue | 151,574 | 7% |
| Kent | 133,378 | 6% |
| Renton | 104,491 | 5% |
| Federal Way | 97,701 | 4% |
| Kirkland | 91,194 | 4% |

Market profile
At $120,672, median household income in King County sits above 98% of counties. Buyers in markets like this usually compare several providers online first, which puts a premium on thorough service pages, strong Google Business Profile reviews and answers to the questions they type into search and into AI assistants.
King County has 2,271,380 residents, which ranks 12th of 3,143 U.S. counties; its population has moved +0.1% since the 2020 Census. Across all industries it has 70,530 employer locations, 31.1 per 1,000 residents.
The larger places in King County are Seattle (755,078), Bellevue (151,574), Kent (133,378), Renton (104,491) and Federal Way (97,701). Each is searched by name, so a business that serves several of them needs a page for each service in each town. That is what a local SEO plan from GetPhound builds.
The field you would rank in
Each local-search category's employer locations are divided by population and compared with the median county. A reading of 2.0x means two times the businesses per resident a typical county has.
Crowding = employer locations per 10,000 residents divided by the median U.S. county of 20,000+ residents (1.0x is typical; the dark tick marks it). Counts are establishments from County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), not search volumes. Method
In King County, the real estate agents and brokers category is the most contested, with 2,280 locations at 4.0 times the typical density, up 41.9% since 2017. Law offices (1,607 locations, 2.5x) and residential remodelers (1,632 locations, 2.4x) also run above a normal county. At the other end, the plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors category (456 locations) is below typical density at 0.6x, which means fewer competing sites to outrank.
Real estate agents and brokers is also the fastest-growing category, up 41.9%, so the competition is still building. Plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors went the other way, down 14.3% to 456 locations. The tiniest competitors are in real estate agents and brokers: 2,056 of 2,280 locations (90%) have fewer than five employees.
A word of caution: these are business counts and say nothing about searches. We do not have, and do not claim, search volumes or traffic for any keyword; a crowded category is a sign that more sites are competing, not a forecast of results.
Housing demand
New homes authorized by building permits. Data: the U.S. Census Bureau's Building Permits Survey (county annual files; year-to-date comparison covers the same months in each year). Permits are authorizations, not completed homes.
King County authorized 19,549 housing units in 2021 and 8,453 in 2025, about 57% fewer; 2025 still works out to 37.2 units per 10,000 residents, more than in 62% of counties. For January through August, permits are running at 7,409 against 4,222 a year earlier (+75.5%).
The construction-linked categories already most contested in King County are real estate agents and brokers (4.0x typical) and residential remodelers (2.4x typical). Because SEO builds gradually, the best time to start is before demand arrives; new households meet the pages that are already indexed and ranking.

Try your own numbers
SEO is a monthly investment that builds over time, so the useful question is how many new customers it has to bring in to pay for itself. Tell the calculator what a customer is worth and which plan you are weighing.
Questions
You pay a flat monthly fee. RankGuarantee™, our local landing page system, is $495 a month on its own. Organic Growth plans, which bring in Google Maps work, AI search optimization, content and more landing pages, run $1,495 (Silver), $2,495 (Gold) and $3,495 (Platinum). You pay no setup fee and sign no contract.
A fixed SEO timeline would not be honest. Rankings build over time and depend on the competition, your site and the work we can publish. Real estate agents and brokers is the most contested category in King County at 4.0x typical, so it is the one to be patient with. You see the movement each month in six-month planning cycles, and you can cancel anytime.
More than most. King County scores 71.1 on our Local Search Competition Index, ranking 245th of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 107th of the 400 markets we cover. Real estate agents and brokers is the densest category here, at 4.0 times the typical county. 61% of local-search locations are tiny, with fewer than five employees, and tiny shops often have thin websites to outrank. If anything, it makes city-and-service pages and strong reviews matter more.
Across the fifteen categories we track, the largest by employer locations in King County are full-service restaurants (2,613), real estate agents and brokers (2,280) and residential remodelers (1,632). Measured against a typical county, the most contested are real estate agents and brokers (4.0x) and law offices (2.5x). Size and crowding in a category do not decide whether SEO works for you; it shows how many other sites would be in the results with you.
Whichever ones you cover. King County has 33 places of 2,500 or more residents, led by Seattle, Bellevue, Kent, Renton and Federal Way. RankGuarantee™ builds local landing pages for each service in each city you serve (25 new pages a month on the $495 plan, 25 to 100 on Organic Growth), so the plan follows your service area, not the county line.
Yes. All Organic Growth plans include Google Business Profile optimization, citations and review management, together with on-page and technical SEO, strategic content and AI search (GEO) work. Map results matter most for searches such as "near me", and most local categories in King County depend on them.
It may. Our plans include AI search (GEO) optimization: clean, structured pages and consistent business information give AI tools more to draw on. No one can guarantee a mention in an AI answer, and we do not promise one, but the work behind rankings is also the content those tools draw from.
Often both. Google Ads can send calls within days and costs per click; SEO takes longer to build and keeps working without a per-click charge. If leads cannot wait, start with ads (we manage Google Ads, Bing and Meta too) and let SEO build the asset that reduces your reliance on them.
Cancel anytime: no contract, no setup fee. Your monthly fee pays for onboarding (keyword research, a website audit and a six-month strategy), the landing pages and content your plan includes, page management and rank tracking, and one dedicated account manager who reports to you each month.
