Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsMonmouth County has 26 places of 2,500 or more residents, and that changes how SEO should be built here. GetPhound is a search engine optimization agency for small businesses: city-by-city landing pages, Google Maps and AI search optimization, and flat monthly plans with no contracts. Below is the data behind the Monmouth County market.
Market snapshot
Local Search Competition Index
81/ 100
Ranked 82 of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 32 of the 400 markets we cover. A higher score means more local businesses are competing for the same searches. How the index is built
We rate every U.S. county-equivalent with 20,000 or more residents on how many local-search businesses (including the lawyers, dentists, contractors, restaurants, salons and agents that customers find on Google and the map) compete for its residents. Monmouth County scores 81, which is among the most contested markets in the country.
Two features set Monmouth County apart: it is a county with many sizeable cities and towns, and it is also a high-income county. Eight measures below show where it stands among all counties.
Each bar places Monmouth County among all 1,822 U.S. counties with 20,000 or more residents. Source data: Census Bureau population estimates, County Business Patterns (2017 and 2022), Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates and the Building Permits Survey.
Market profile
Monmouth County has 26 places with 2,500 or more residents, 6 of them above 10,000, more than 99% of counties. Each is its own search market: people look for a plumber in Long Branch or in the next town over, not in the county. Local SEO means giving each of those cities its own page for each service you offer, which is what RankGuarantee™ is built to produce.
Monmouth County has 642,799 residents, which ranks 112th of 3,143 U.S. counties; its population has moved −0.1% since the 2020 Census. Across all industries it has 19,735 employer locations, 30.7 per 1,000 residents.
63% of residents (405,743 people) live outside any incorporated place, so county-level and "near me" searches matter as much as city names.
Who you would rank against
For each local-search category we divide employer locations by population and compare the result with the median county. A 2.0x reading means two times the businesses per resident a typical county has.
Crowding compares employer locations per 10,000 residents with the median U.S. county of 20,000+ residents (1.0x is typical; the dark tick marks it). The counts are establishments in County Business Patterns (2017, 2022), which says nothing about search volume. How we calculate this
The physicians offices category is the most contested in Monmouth County: 855 locations, 3.3x the density of a typical county, and up 5.8% since 2017. Beauty salons (332 locations, 3.2x) and law offices (441 locations, 2.4x) also run above a normal county. The general automotive repair category is the least contested here at 1.0x typical (164 locations), so there are fewer rival pages for those searches.
Plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors went the other way, down 10.4% to 337 locations. The tiniest competitors are in real estate agents and brokers: 177 of 209 locations (85%) have fewer than five employees.
The figures show who competes, not how much demand there is. The number of searches and the speed at which a page can rank depend on things public data cannot show, so a crowded category calls for planning and a quiet one is an opening.
Housing demand
Housing units authorized by building permits. Data: the Census Bureau's Building Permits Survey (annual county files, with the year-to-date bars covering the same months in each year). A permit is an authorization, not a finished home.
Housing permits in Monmouth County rose from 2,350 units in 2021 to 3,352 in 2025 (+43%), or 52.1 per 10,000 residents, more than in 74% of counties. For January through August, permits are running at 1,563 against 2,438 a year earlier (−35.9%).
The construction-linked categories already most contested in Monmouth County are landscaping services (2.2x typical) and residential remodelers (1.8x typical). Since rankings build slowly, rising permits are a reason to start today, and a drop is a reason to lean harder on repair, replacement and service-specific pages.
Markets like this one
We matched Monmouth County to the six markets in our 400-market set that look most like it on population, income, local-search competition and how fast the business base is growing.
| Market | LSCI | People | Change since 2020 | Change in local-search businesses since 2017 | Locations under 5 staff |

| Washington County, OR | 69.1 | 598,865 | -0.3% | +1% | 60% |
The six look-alikes are the counties in our 400-market set that sit closest to this one on size, income, local-search competition, small-business mix and growth. Sources are listed above.
Norfolk County, MA is the closest match, scoring 80.5 against Monmouth County's 81. Washington County, OR is the furthest from it, scoring 69.1. Bucks County, PA has 61.4% of its local-search locations under five employees against 57.9% in Monmouth County. If you already do SEO in one of these markets, the comparison shows how alike the competition is, not what your results will be.
Population by place
The Census Bureau's latest estimates, by place. People search by town name, so each of these is a separate set of searches and a possible landing page for each service you offer.

Nobody can promise a date for SEO, because it builds gradually. The speed of the climb depends on how crowded your category is, how strong your website and Google Business Profile are, and how much we can publish. In Monmouth County, physicians offices is especially contested (3.3x a typical county), so expect that category to take longer. Our planning cycles run six months with no contract, and you get a report each month.
More than most. Monmouth County scores 81 on our Local Search Competition Index, ranking 82nd of 1,822 counties with 20,000+ residents and 32nd of the 400 markets we cover. Physicians offices is the densest category here, at 3.3 times the typical county. 57.9% of local-search locations are tiny, with fewer than five employees, and tiny shops commonly have thin websites to outrank. If anything, it makes city-and-service pages and strong reviews matter more.
Across the fifteen categories we track, the largest by employer locations in Monmouth County are physicians offices (855), full-service restaurants (710) and landscaping services (458). Measured against a typical county, the most contested are physicians offices (3.3x) and beauty salons (3.2x). Size and crowding in a category do not decide whether SEO works for you; it shows how many other sites you would be sharing the results with.
Whichever ones you cover. Monmouth County has 26 places of 2,500 or more residents, led by Long Branch, Tinton Falls, Asbury Park, Eatontown and Red Bank. RankGuarantee™ builds local landing pages for each service in each city you serve (25 new pages a month on the $495 plan, 25 to 100 on Organic Growth), so the plan follows your service area, not the county line.
Absolutely. Each Organic Growth plan covers Google Business Profile optimization, citations and review management, along with on-page and technical SEO, strategic content and AI search (GEO) work. Maps rankings matter most for searches like "near me", and most local categories in Monmouth County depend on them.
It may. AI search (GEO) optimization is part of our plans: well-structured pages and consistent business details give AI tools more to work with. No one can guarantee a mention in an AI answer, and we do not promise one, but the same work that earns rankings builds the content those tools use.
Often both. Google Ads can bring calls within days, but each click costs money; SEO takes longer to build and keeps working without a per-click charge. When you need leads right away, begin with ads (we manage Google Ads, Bing and Meta too) and build SEO as the asset that makes you less dependent on ads.
You can cancel anytime and there is no setup fee. Each month you get the keyword research, website audit and six-month strategy to begin with, then the pages and content in your tier, rank tracking, and one account manager who knows your Monmouth County business.
